What is the best option and why?
The mass-produced modern diesel engine generally has a number of restrictions imposed upon it.
Due to the requirement to meet a wide variety of real world operating conditions, such as variations in manufacturing tolerances, fuel quality, climatic conditions, and poor maintenance etc your vehicle is supplied with, the one size fits all engine management setup which means there is significant scope for improvement.
Poor low speed response and mid-range flat-spots can be eliminated, very noticeable improvements in overall performance and impressive fuel efficiency gains are possible.
Modern Tuning is not just about increasing power and torque output, but equally about optimising the efficiency of the engine.

Each option has it's benefits, however even when comparing the best Tuning Boxes available Tunit ® a good quality professional remap will provide better overall results and is the option we recommend wherever possible. For technical reasons it is not always possible to offer an ecu remap and in those cases a quality tuning box is a suitable option.
What is the difference between a Quality Tuning Box and a Quality Custom Remap?
Tunit ® Quality Diesel Tuning Box
The operation of modern diesel engines is controlled by the engine’s ECU (engine control unit) which, according to requirements, sends constantly varying signals to the fuel injection system.
The Tunit ® will modify this signal in such a way that, throughout the engine speed range and according to power demands, the fuel injection volume is beneficially enhanced. But it’s particularly useful if there’s potential to actually adjust these modified instructions according to individual needs The Tunit ® can be fine tuned to an owner’s specific requirements.
Rapid Remap ™ have recently taken on the Tunit ® range of tuning devices so we can offer a viable and effective alternative to ECU remapping on diesel vehicles, where it is not possible for technical reasons to provide a remap.
Rapid Remap ™ Quality ECU Remapping
As good as a Tunit ® device is, it can never offer the flexibility of a professional remap, simply because remapping is a process whereby, a wide range of engine management parameters in the ecu are reset providing new instructions applicable under any given driving condition.
A tuning box of any description ONLY affects fuel volume. In the case of a more sophisticated device like the Tunit ® fuel feed will be adjusted automatically according to drivers wish (accelerator pedal) and can also be fine tuned from a laptop, making it an effective solution.
Whilst a tuning box relies on changing fuelling characteristics a custom remap will reset instructions for a wide range of parameters including but not limited to, Fuel Volume, Fuel Pressure, EGR, Turbo pressure, Torque limiters and more…
One very noticeable and distinct difference that a driver would feel between a tuning box and a remap is at 3000 revs and above.
On a standard or tuning box equipped vehicle, torque delivery is restricted by an electronic limiter, (this electronic limiter is relaxed during a remap) so a professionally remapped vehicle will continue to deliver strong torque all the way up to the redline, and deliver stronger mid range pulling power. (something a tuning box cannot do)

Ever been overtaking and found that you need to change down a gear to get back into the powerband to make sure you make the pass safely?
